204 POUND BLUE SHARK WINS 37th ANNUAL
FREEPORT HUDSON ANGLERS’ SHARK TOURNAMENT

 

First-place team takes home
$35,920 in cash and Calcutta

JUNE 27, 2009, Freeport, NY – A 204-pound Blue shark caught by Angler Neil Auncer on the No Time has won the 37th Annual Freeport Hudson Anglers' Shark Tournament. Capt. Nick Sevene and his crew were awarded $35,920 for their 1st place effort. The Blue shark was one of 29 sharks weighed in at the Town of Hempstead's Guy Lombardo Marina this evening at the Tournament's close. Other prize winning fishes included:

  • Second place with $33,974 in cash and Calcutta went to Capt. Lawrence Johnson and the rest of the crew on the Hurricane for their 178 pound Mako shark.

  • Third place with $45,198 in cash and Calcutta went to Capt. Michael Spagnuolo and the rest of the crew on the Gina Ann for their 175 pound Blue shark.

 

A total of 141 fishing teams participated in this year's tournament, one of the oldest and largest shark-fishing tournaments in the Tri-state area. Approximately $117,000 was given out in cash, prizes and Calcutta.

Once again a good time was had by everyone involved in the tournament. A successful tournament takes a gallant behind-the-scenes effort by all the volunteers. A sincere thank you goes out to all of you.
